Welcome to the Pohutukawa Poster's blog - Room 15
We are creating a class treaty based on our school values of...
RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY RESILIENCE
The treaty will support us with caring for each other and our environment. We want to create a 'happy zone' in Room 15 where everyone is treated with respect. A place where we can learn and grow together as a class. This year our inquiry learning relates to 'sustainability' and we will be following the Pathways to Learning inquiry learning model to develop research skills. Our theme for term 1 is Wonderful Water.
We are learning about Statistics and becoming "Data Detectives"! We are following the Statistical enquiry cycle:
To begin with, we asked everyone in our class this question: "When is your birthday?"
We each drew a birthday cake and made a picture graph or pictograph by gluing our drawing above the month that our birthday is in. We displayed our data on a bar graph. We talked about the months of the year that had the most, the least or the same number of birthdays.
Over the next two weeks we will use other types of graphs to display data when we investigate other problems using the statistical enquiry cycle above.
Here is a photograph of Emily, who all had their birthdays since December so far. They are standing near Room 1's birthday picture graph or pictograph.
Last week, we embarked on our literacy learning journey. The Effective Literacy Tumble is a sequence of purposeful literacy activities that are designed for independent learning. Once we are familiar with the tumble, guided reading and writing groups will begin with me (Mrs Lawson). This is what the Effective Literacy Tumble "looks like"...
