Fruit Flies By Paris

Fruit Flies
Queensland Fruit Fly

Fruit flies are a type of bug that is spreading around Auckland. The first fruit fly was found in Prime Rd, Grey Lynn. There are over 250 species of fruit fly.

Fruit flies can make fruit and vegetables turn into a soft mushy mess. Fruit flies attack pears, passionfruit, fejoas, grapes, guava,
blackberries and much, much more.

People get rid of fruit flies by setting traps, spraying plants to stop them, disposing of fruit and vege scraps carefully, making sure fruit stays in the Grey Lynn area so they don't spread. Female fruit flies lay eggs in the fleshy part of fruit. Fruit flies live for 40 to 55 days. They damage fruit and make them inedible. This would be a big problem for the fruit industry in NZ!
