They like to eat fruit and vegetables
2.    Where do fruit flies come from?
Queensland
3.    Why do we want to get rid of fruit flies?
Because we don’t want fruit flies eating our fruit and vegetables
4.    How long are fruit flies?
1mm but adult fruit flies are 7mm

1. Where was the first fruit fly found?
The first fruit fly was found in Prime Road, Grey Lynn.
2. How does it attack fruit?
The fruit fly can cause your fruit and veggies to turn into a soft mushy mess
3. How many body parts does it have?

4. What fruit does the fruit fly attack?
Fruit flies attack pears, passionfruit, fejoa, grapes, guava, blackberry and much more.
5. Who is finding them?
The ministry of primary industries
6. How are we going to stop it?
By setting traps, spraying plants to stop them, disposing of fruit and vegetable scraps carefully, making sure fruit stays in the Grey Lynn area so they don't spread.
7. Why does it attack fruit?
Female fruit flies lay eggs in the fleshy part of the fruit
8. How old do they live to?
40 to 55 days
9. How many species are there?
There are over 250 species.
10. Why are fruit flies a problem?
They damage fruit and make them inedible.
This would be a big problem for the fruit industry in NZ
